On July 8, 2011, I set up three cameras on the upper floor of the central rotunda of the "Pinakothek der Moderne", Munich's most prominent museum of contemporary art. The cameras were looking down from the gallery focussed on the center of the rotunda. As visitors entered the museum we approached them explaining that they could be part of a work of art themselves if they walked to the center point of the rotunda - which, for some reason, is marked on the floor by some kind of recessed lid.

Over the course of the day something amazing happened: Faced with the conundrum of being objects of art themselves (as pointed out the cards handed out on that occasion) the art-lovers had to find ways of dealing with this sudden change of perspective. Some set out to march through the picture demonstratively unperturbed, some approached the magic spot carefully and stood in attention dutifully. Others decided to improvise a small act to be captured and conserved.

Now, with the three simultaneous views of the scene combined into a piece of situ art, the stage is set for this experiment in communication and perception to continue in virtual space. People and their personas meet and interact.

I recorded around 17,000 single photos that day. Now I've finished assembling the first "module" of what will probably become an even bigger picture.
I love the result, this is a truly amazing art-crowd!
